Focus and Scope
This is the only journal of Bio-Medical Informatics in Sri Lanka. It is designed to publish original research articles and scholarly articles on bio-medical informatics. It is electronically distributed widely in Sri Lanka and abroad. There is no hardcopy print version.
The Journal is published quarterly and the articles are reviewed by both local and foreign peer reviewers, based on reviewer selection made by the Editors. The Journal is the joint official publication of The Health Informatics Society of Sri Lanka and The Post-Graduate Institute of Medicine of The University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Editorial Details and Sponsorship
Editorial
Editorials will be published by the Editors. The Editors may specifically invite selected autors to submit Guest Editorials.
Position Statements and Guidelines
This section will include National / International Position Statements / Guidelines, already reviewed, confirmed and issued by recognised authorities.
e-Health Sri Lanka
This section provides a description of the events and proceedings of e-Health Sri Lanka Congresses that are held in Sri Lanka.
Leading Article
Authors are free to submit articles to this section of the journal. Publication would be subject to Peer Review and Editorial Acceptance. Editors may commission selected authors to submit Leading Articles.
Original Articles
This section would contain Original Research Papers. Articles should be limited to a maximum of 5000 words.
Short Reports
Original research articles of less than 2500 words are included in this section. Authors may use their discretion to submit articles to this section.
The Editors reserve the right to shorten and include submitted Original Articles into this section, with the concurrence of the authors concerned.
e-Concept Articles
Papers on Electronic Concepts that have not been implemented but are in conceptual stage or in the final planning stage may be submitted into this section. These papers will not contain usage data.
Current Practice Articles
Authors are free to submit articles on currently prevailing practices into this section.
Review Articles
Reviews on any aspect of Bio-Medical topics may be submitted into this section.
Mutation Reports
New mutations in Sri Lanka and abroad can be included in this section.
Personal View
Articles on any aspect of individual opinions on Bio-Medical topics may be submitted into this section.

Appreciation
This section is used to record posthumous appreciations of persons who have contributed in a significant way to the development of Bio-Medical Informatics.
Guidelines for Authors
Peer Review Process
The articles are initially assessed by one of the Editors and unsuitable articles, particularly those that do not match the stated objectives of the Journal and the field of Bio-Medical Informatics, would be rejected via a process of Primary Editorial Rejection.
Those that conform to the requirements of the Journal would than be sent for peer-review.
Publication Frequency
The Journal will be published quarterly. The first issue will be published in January 2010. Subsequent issues would be published in April, July, October 2010 and in corresponding months in subsequent years.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. All articles are in full text pdf format and accessible freely without charge for the end-user.
